I Like My Beat Down Low

In the spirit of listening to the "Zero" song over on Disney ("Zeroooooos, zeros mean so muuuuuch!!) I made a CD of non-annoying, non-get-stuck-in-your-head-only-to-reappear-at-embarrassing-times-like-at-the-bank songs for her enjoyment. I am not a kid's songs kind of mom. In fact, I kind of hate kid's songs. I was scarred for life by continuous listening of the Safety Kids as a child. On the bright side, I did learn how to Go For A Natural High (High! High! High!). On the other hand, my brother and I tore the cassette tape into pieces and buried it in the backyard. I've never looked back.

Ever since she was just tiny, probably about 8 months, we realized that Addison responds really well to rap music. Call me a bad parent (no, really, you can. I don't even mind.) But if my baby wants rap, she's going to get it!! She also loves movie soundtracks and then a few random songs that she knows the words for. Are they songs I want her singing to her teachers in nursery? No. But I don't really want her singing the Zeros Mean So Much song either. It's just weird.

Here's her official playlist:
Changes - Butterfly Boucher
You've Got A Friend In Me - Toy Story
Funkytown - Lipps Inc.
Best Years of Our Lives - Baha Men (I pretend not to like this song.)
Part of Your World - Little Mermaid
Top Back - T.I. (you can relax, I got the edited version.)
Rehab - Amy Winehouse (It is so funny to hear her sing "No, no, no!" )
See You Again - Miley Cyrus
Allstar - Smash Mouth
Life Is A Highway - Rascall Flatts
Like Wow - Leslie Carter
Superstar - Lupe Fiasco (She loves singing this in the car. Its my favourite song du jour. I am so proud)
Bad Reputation - Joan Jett (YES I am aware that this song is probably not great, but she goes crazy when she hears it.)
Real Gone - Sheryl Crow
I'm A Believer - Smash Mouth
I'm On My Way - The Proclaimers (We'll have to get Tom to play this on his guitar next time I'm home. )

No. None of these songs are educational. They will not teach her about the wheels on the bus, the animals on the farm, ways to say no to drugs, or the months of the year. But they WILL save my sanity on long road trips. Can I help it if my daughter has impeccable taste in music?

And just for fun, proof that my daughter loves rap. This video is pretty old, I think she was like 16 months in it. But its the only time I've gotten her sweet moves on camera. Poppin' and lockin' foo!

That's awesome! We don't do kid's songs either. Our kids LOVE Zeppelin, Coheed and Cambria, Pink Floyd, all the greats! In fact, I have a great video of my son singing/dancing to Coheed and Cambria on my blog. They prefer the real stuff to their kiddie songs any day. You should see them all rocking out to "the doggie song" (Led's "Black Dog") in the van! lol.

You rock!
